Sometimes we wake up with the intention to practise, but all it takes is a step into the kitchen for a thousand other priorities to appear. Washing the dishes. Hanging the laundry. Taking a shower. And before we know it, we find ourselves sitting not on the mat, but in front of a screen. Scrolling aimlessly, distracted, heading nowhere in particular.
But… what if 15 minutes were enough?
Not to do everything “perfectly”, but simply to listen to the body and notice how you are feeling. Perhaps today calls for a gentle pranayama or a krya (or maybe both). Or perhaps all you need is to sit with an upright spine and breathe. Maybe you put on a simple YouTube video and allow movement to guide you.
Practising at home carries a quiet invitation: you are your own teacher, your own temple. You can ask yourself: what do I need today?
It is easy to find excuses. And sometimes they are not even excuses, just habits, routines, and moments of inattention. But what is practice, if not a way of breaking those cycles?
Just like brushing your teeth, practice can become part of the hygiene of the soul. Much like the daily routines of Ayurveda. Waking up, scraping the tongue, washing the face, taking a deep breath… and listening.
Because if Yoga is a way of living, then why not make practice part of our everyday routine?
The body speaks. The mind speaks. And nature speaks too. Have you looked out of the window today? A little bird, perhaps. Or, if you open it, you may hear birdsong, the sound of the wind… or perhaps choose to listen to a gentle mantra instead.
To step beyond inertia is to offer ourselves the very best we can, today!
